Data Managers & Data Loggers

Data managers and data loggers consolidate process signals into a structured, time‑based record that can be viewed locally and shared upstream. They acquire connected input signals, convert them into engineering units, and present measured and calculated values on an integrated display while continuously recording them for later review. In many installations they act as a compact “system of record” for a loop, unit operation, or skid - combining indication, logging, and first-level analysis in one device.

Configuration focuses on channel setup, scaling, time stamping, and event logic, with intuitive operation that adapts quickly to the application. Beyond simple trending, these instruments monitor limits, capture alarms and events, and support analysis directly on the device. Recorded information is stored internally or on exchangeable media and can be transmitted to superior systems (for example, a PC or historian) for long‑term retention and reporting.

The operational benefit is trustworthy visibility with low lifecycle overhead. Because recording is paperless and essentially wear‑free, ongoing maintenance and consumables are reduced while traceability improves. High data security supports audit expectations, and - when an integrated web server is available - remote access to operation and visualization can reduce routine checks and lower maintenance costs.

Connectivity is often the differentiator in system design. Measured and calculated values can be exchanged with automation and information layers using common interfaces, and support for widely used fieldbuses and Ethernet-based protocols accelerates integration into diverse architectures (including Modbus, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP). The same connectivity makes it practical to interconnect individual plant modules and build skid‑level functionality that scales into site-wide systems.

Typical applications include paperless recording and visualization of critical process values, documentation and reporting, and “black‑box” logging for intermittent upsets. Application packages extend the same platform into specialized roles such as energy, batch, or wastewater monitoring, while available form factors support field installation, panel mounting, and solutions intended for Ex areas.
