Temperature
Thermometers and transmitters for the process industry.
Temperature
Temperature measurement includes industrial thermometers, assemblies, and temperature transmitters used across process industries in both industrial and hygienic applications. Temperature is described as the most frequently measured parameter in the process industry and is tightly linked to process safety, operational efficiency, and final product quality—making reliability and accuracy fundamental requirements.
Endress+Hauser highlights an expansive, globally available portfolio of standardized thermometers, with certified products designed for seamless integration and long-term performance. Benefits include international approvals for metrology and hazardous areas, broad protocol support from analog to digital, low operating costs through easy handling and long lifetime, and high plant productivity/availability supported by reliable sensor technology and traceable, accredited calibrations.
Installation strategy is a core engineering decision. Direct immersion measurements can be fastest but often require shutdown to remove or replace the sensor, and can increase contamination or wear risk in harsh media. Thermowells enable sensor exchange without interrupting the process but can introduce pressure loss, wear, and slower response; non-invasive surface measurement avoids penetration-related leakage/wear and can be retrofitted, though accuracy can be influenced by ambient and surface conditions (often mitigated with insulation).
The temperature portfolio spans multiple instrument types and duty classes, including industrial thermometers, hygienic thermometers (with hygienic connections and certifications), compact thermometers (sensor and transmitter combined), multipoint thermometers for profiling, high-temperature sensors for very high-temperature environments, surface/non-invasive sensors, and cable probes for fast detection of temperature changes in machinery or utility services.
Non-invasive measurement is also highlighted through dedicated product solutions such as iTHERM SurfaceLine, positioned to measure process temperature without leakage risk or process disruption. Typical applications include corrosive or abrasive services, small pipes, piggable lines, retrofits where shutdown is costly, and safety-critical areas where minimizing penetration points improves operational robustness.
